75th Anniversary of the Golden Gate Bridge

There is an amazing array of activities going on along the waterfront in San Francisco this Sunday, May 27th to celebrate 75 years since the opening of the iconic bridge.  This sounds like a fantastic event but I do want to caution you that large crowds are expected and public transit is strongly urged.  I would not recommend an event like this for families with very young children.   Visitors who expect to attend should plan on huge crowds and all the goes with that.  The highlight of the day will be fireworks over the bridge at 9:30 pm.  See the entire schedule of events here.

There are some new permanent upgrades at bridge facilities at the southern entrance and you can visit those anytime after the anniversary.  You can get your picture taken and inserted into various backdrops including an image of you walking up towards the top of the suspension tower.

See a list of 75 Ways to Celebrate the 75th Anniversary HERE.

San Francisco Conservatory of Flowers - Plantosaurus Rex

This is a unique exhibit that features models of dinosaurs along with the prehistoric vegetation they walked among millions of years ago.  There is even a giant T. Rex that has "smashed" through the roof of the conservatory looking for a bite to eat.

The exhibit runs through October 21, 2012

Golden Gate Park, San Francisco     Website

If you go I would avoid Sunday, May 27th due to the Golden Gate Bridge festivities.  A trip to the Conservatory combined with a picnic in the park and maybe a paddle boat ride on Stowe Lake and/or a stop at Ocean Beach along the Great Highway would make for a lovely day in the city.

We have many more ideas in our calendar of events for you to plan a family fun day this weekend.
